Artificial intelligence is creating transformation across a wide range of areas in the aviation industry, from enriching the customer experience to increasing the efficiency of operation and maintenance processes. At Turkish Technology, we consider it our fundamental priority that the AI systems we develop are not only functional but also ethical, reliable, human-centered, up-to-date, and continuity-oriented.
While AI systems provide high speed and foresight in process management, we take care to ensure that the mechanisms behind these decisions are understandable, controllable, and fair. In these processes, we adopt the principle of human oversight and approval (human in the loop), ensuring that critical decisions are evaluated by competent individuals in the final stage. In this context, our Responsible Artificial Intelligence Policy focuses not only on technical competence but also on ethical principles, legal compliance, transparency, and social benefit.
This policy outlines the fundamental ethical principles, implementation guidelines, and corporate approaches that are intended to be followed in AI projects developed within Turkish Technology. The aim is to build AI systems that are reliable, responsible, and continuity-oriented, not only for today but also for the future.
Our Ethical Principles
In all artificial intelligence projects we carry out within the framework of our Responsible Artificial Intelligence approach, we prioritize ethical principles such as Transparency and Explainability, Accountability, Impartiality, Resilience, Privacy, and Security. Acting in accordance with these principles, Turkish Technology aims to build not only today’s but also tomorrow’s digital aviation on strong ethical foundations.
1. Transparency and Explainability
At Turkish Technology, we embrace transparency as a prerequisite in the artificial intelligence solutions we develop and consider explainability to be the foundation of user trust. Explainable artificial intelligence aims to present how and why a model reaches a specific result in an understandable manner. In this regard, we implement methods that increase the traceability and transparency of decision-making processes in our projects, enabling users to understand the system’s operation at a general principle level and provide feedback.
In the model development process, we adopt approaches that balance accuracy and explainability. We prioritize producing controllable systems by avoiding unnecessary complexity. The outputs and recommendation mechanisms of all our models are recorded and stored in a manner that can be reviewed by authorized teams. Especially in applications that directly interact with customers, we make it a priority to clearly explain the basis for the recommendations presented to the user.
At the corporate level, we standardize the principles of transparency and explainability through the artificial intelligence governance structures we create; we assess potential risks and ensure compliance approvals before new systems are deployed. In this way, we ensure the long-term reliability and sustainability of transparent artificial intelligence systems.
2. Accountability
For AI systems to be managed safely, it is essential not only to have technical accuracy, but also to have traceable decision-making processes, clearly defined responsibilities, and controllable system behavior over time. At Turkish Technology, we position governance, monitoring, auditing, and continuous improvement processes as cornerstones of our corporate culture to ensure end-to-end accountability in our artificial intelligence applications.
- Corporate governance and committee structure
Accountability is a core value for our entire organization. A committee is planned to be established to ensure that artificial intelligence activities within the organization are conducted in accordance with ethical principles, legal regulations, and corporate standards, and it is anticipated that the relevant units of the company will participate in this committee.
- Model life cycle and traceability
At Turkish Technology, the development of our artificial intelligence systems is based on the stages of design, data preparation, model training, testing and evaluation, commissioning, and continuous monitoring. Necessary adjustments may be made in the implementation of these processes according to the nature and area of use of the model. The principles of transparency and traceability are observed in the relevant processes.
- Monitoring and continuous improvement
Artificial intelligence systems are not static; changing user behaviors, business needs, and data structures can reduce the accuracy of the model over time. Therefore, change and drift analysis are an integral part of accountability. Regular monitoring is performed to detect changes early, and models are updated or retrained when necessary. Particularly in systems that directly affect users, performance declines are addressed with rapid action plans and resolved with the approval of the relevant units.
Within the scope of Data Quality and Management, the accuracy, integrity, and consistency criteria of the data used are regularly checked, and potential problems are resolved. Through Continuous Improvement and Feedback Mechanisms, feedback from both the user experience and business units is regularly collected and integrated into the development of the models. In critical situations, performance losses are addressed from an emergency and crisis management perspective and resolved quickly in coordination with the business units.
3. Fairness, Diversity, and Inclusion
During the development and implementation of artificial intelligence systems, it is unethical to create biases based on individuals’ characteristics such as race, gender, age, socioeconomic status, or geographic location. At Turkish Technology, we consider it one of our fundamental responsibilities to develop impartial artificial intelligence systems that ensure equal and fair treatment for every individual.
The principle of impartiality is one of the fundamental approaches we adopt as a guide in our efforts towards the fair and ethical use of artificial intelligence systems. Considering the possibility that complete impartiality cannot be technically guaranteed in all cases, we aim to minimize the impact of potential biases in this area. We strive to prevent systematic bias and discrimination by ensuring that various social groups are fairly represented in data collection, processing, and model development processes.
The principle of diversity and inclusivity is an integral part of our understanding of impartiality. We emphasize the importance of considering different perspectives and adopting an inclusive approach in the development of artificial intelligence systems.
We adopt the principle of human oversight in all the models we develop, especially in critical decision-making areas. This ensures that the results presented to the user are not only technically correct but also fair and reliable. We evaluate user feedback not only in terms of the model’s accuracy metrics but also in terms of “perceived fairness,” and when necessary, we incorporate this data into the process for retraining and improving the model.
4. Resilience
Maintaining the reliability of our artificial intelligence systems not only under normal conditions but also in unexpected situations is a priority for Turkish Technology. The principle of resilience refers to systems being prepared and resistant to situations such as technical failures, data loss, cyber-attacks, extreme weather conditions, or operational disruptions. In this context, early warning and monitoring mechanisms are designed to identify potential risks in our artificial intelligence solutions in advance and maintain system reliability. Infrastructures that enable switching to secure backup systems when necessary are also part of this approach.
Resilience also ensures the long-term sustainability of our systems. Thanks to this approach, supported by regular maintenance, continuous improvement, energy efficiency, and human oversight, we are able to produce solutions that are both safe and environmentally responsible at critical decision points.
5. Privacy
At Turkish Technology, we consider protecting the privacy, integrity, and security of all data used in our artificial intelligence systems to be one of our top priorities. In this regard, we adopt the principles set forth in the Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act) in our data processing procedures. In the use of personal data in our artificial intelligence models, we have adopted the principle of avoiding the processing of sensitive information such as individuals’ ethnic origin, religious beliefs, language, or similar characteristics. Our data processing procedures are carried out only for specified purposes and with the minimum necessary data set.
6. Continuous Training and Awareness
The responsible development of artificial intelligence systems is possible not only through technical measures but also through ongoing training and awareness initiatives across the organization. In this regard, the goal is to gradually plan training and awareness programs for employees on Responsible Artificial Intelligence principles, ethical risks, and the effects of bias. Communicating these principles to new employees during their onboarding process is also among future applications. This approach aims to create a shared awareness throughout the organization and strengthen a culture of responsible artificial intelligence.
